The true value of an object often lies in the story it carries. It reminds me of a dissertation I once wrote on "The Memories of Textiles "—the beautiful concept that objects become precious because they hold onto time and human emotion.
This particular bespoke story begins with a bride-to-be, Darina. She loved our brand's aesthetic, but she came to me with a very special and weighty request: she wanted to incorporate a pair of pearl earrings left behind by her late grandma into a new design to wear on her wedding day.
To Darina, this was much more than a bridal accessory. Wearing these redesigned earrings down the aisle meant having her grandma right there with her, watching her wed and entrusting her to her partner. This level of trust means the world to me, and I was deeply honoured to bring such a meaningful piece to life.
The Concept: When Brand Signatures Meet Family Heirlooms
In the early stages of discussing the design, Darina thoughtfully put together a mood board for me, detailing the elements of her wedding dress and the overall visual theme of her big day. She shared which of our brand's designs she particularly loved, and also sent over photos of her grandmother's jewellery—two pairs of earrings and one single earring in total.

I suggested a concept: Darina would choose her favourite pearl flower shape and size to serve as the main stud, whilst the dangling elements beneath would be entirely reimagined using her grandma's pearls.
This way, as the earrings sway gently by her cheeks, they reflect not only the bride's personal style but also the profound blessing of her grandma.
Behind the Craft: Restoration and Rebirth
Once the general direction was set, Darina chose the flower shape and size of our best-selling "Mini White Baroque Keshi Pearl Flower Dangle Earrings №51" as the focal point, opting for silver hardware to complement her bridal gown.
Shortly after, Darina's parcel arrived. Upon inspecting her grandmother's earrings, I noticed the hardware was originally sterling silver, but due to years of storage and oxidisation, the metal had turned completely black. Before beginning any redesign work, I had to gently awaken them.

I took a silver polishing cloth and carefully wiped them down bit by bit, finishing with a professional jewellery cloth. Watching the dark tarnish fade away to reveal their original, bright silver shine was an incredibly peaceful and humbling process.
Once the fittings were restored to their former glory, I began designing the drops. To give Darina some options, I created two sketches using the different pearls left by her grandma:
Design Proposal 1: Using three pink rice pearls from one of the pairs to create a soft, sleek, linear drop.

Design Proposal 2: Using three white, near-round pearls from the other pair, arranged in varying lengths to create a beautifully textured, asymmetric drop.

The Reveal: A Legacy in Pearls
Darina ultimately chose the second design. The top of the earring features our classic miniature white pearl flower, whilst the three white heirloom pearls cascade delicately beneath, showcasing Darina's modern elegance while seamlessly carrying a love that spans generations.

But the story doesn't end there. Because Darina had originally sent me two pairs and a single earring, we still had several pearls and original fittings left over after completing her bridal design. Since the original sterling silver hardware had polished up so beautifully and looked entirely brand new, I decided to do something extra. Using the remaining pieces, I carefully repaired and restored her grandmother's original earrings, bringing them back to life.

When I packaged Darina's order, I made sure to include her bespoke bridal earrings alongside the beautifully restored heirloom pieces, safely returning all the exchanged silver components and any leftover loose pearls to her.
Upon seeing the final design and the restored pieces, she sent me a message that truly touched my heart:
"You are fantastically good at what you do and so extremely kind to take on this bespoke project. I not only can provide you a photo on my wedding day and write a review from our experience creating the earrings and restoring the others. I cannot express how grateful I am. Thank you very much for everything."
As Darina's big day hasn't quite arrived yet, we are eagerly counting down the days. Once the wedding has passed and I receive the photos in these incredibly meaningful earrings, I will update here immediately!
